  • The Kandy Friend-in-need Society was inaugurated on 4th November 1837, during the colonial era, under the Patronage of Sir Steuart Mckenzie, the then Governor of Sri Lanka.
  • The Society was registered as an approved charity in 1891.
  • The Home for the Elders was declared an approved charity under Section 16A of the Inland Revenue Act No. 4 of 1963 by a notice published in the Government Gazette No. 70 of 27.7.1973
  • In 1918, a committee was appointed to consider the establishment of a Home for Elders.
  • The Home for the Elders was opened on 12th July 1938 by Sir Andrew Caldecott, Governor of Sri Lank at the time.
  • The Society was incorporated by Act. No.2 of 1984
  • In 1989, a lease of a 22 perch land situated at the rear of the Home was obtained from the Railway Department.
  • The official handing over of the land at Ampitiya to KFINS took place on 4th June 2001.

  • In 1994, Mrs. Nalini Senanayake donated Rs. 100,000/= to inaugurate the Laxman Senanayake Fund.
  • In 2000, a grant allocation of Rs. 2,500,000/= was provided by Mr. E.H.M.P. Elkaduwa, Secretary to the Chief Ministry to commence Stage I of the Elders Home at Ampitiya.
  • Miss. Lesline Naranpanawa Honorary Secretary at the time, she donated Rs 200,000/=.tocommence the work. Subsequently,Mr .E.W Balasuriya donated Rs 500,000/=and Mr. Azard Carder donated Rs. 235,615/= towards its construction.
  • In 2021, Mr T Parthibaran bussinessman and a well wsher of KFINS has donated Rs. 500,000/- to the Danture Elder's Village Fund.
  • The Home for the Elders was opened on 12th July 1938 by Sir Andrew Caldecott, Governor of Sri Lank at the time.
  • The foundation stone for the shrine room to be erected at the Ampitiya Elders’ Home was laid by Dr. Prem Weerakoon on 11th April, 2004.Late Mrs. Prema Pritchard in memory of her parents donated Rs 1,609,271, towards its construction
  • On the initiative taken by His Excellency Stephen Evans, the British High Commissioner in Sri Lanka, the UK firm, Courtaulds Clothing ( Pvt ) Ltd. donated Rs 500,000/= towards renovation and building improvements at Mulgampola. Mr, Ananda de Mel coordinated this programme for KFINS.
